The current stats servers, standard and deviation, are a pair of machines with the second acting a warm standby failover. The second machine also serves as a staging/development server. Both machines have the same identical configuration:
  • HP ProLiant DL140 G2 server, 1U rack mount
  • Dual processor, Intel Xeon CPU 3.40GHz with HyperThreading (total 4 logical processors)
  • 8.0 GB RAM (4 of 8 sockets filled)
  • 2TB usable, mirrored with ZFS (2 x 2TB SATA disks)
  • Operating system is FreeBSD 8.1 for AMD64
  • Web server is Apache and PHP
  • Database is PostgreSQL 9.0.1
  • Donated to distributed.net 2010-09, Put into service 2010-11-26.

The previous stats server, fritz (statsbox-iv), had this configuration:
  • Dual-Processor AMD Opteron 244 1.8GHz
  • Rack Mount 3U Chassis (9 x SATA drive bays)
  • Tyan Thunder K8S Pro (S2882) motherboard
  • 4.0GB RAM
  • 3Ware 9550SX-8LP SATA RAID Controller
  • 600GB RAID 10 (6 x 200GB disks)
  • 300GB RAID 1 (2 x 300GB disks)
  • Operating system is FreeBSD 6.x for AMD64
  • Web server is Apache and PHP
  • Database back-end is PostgreSQL 8.1
  • Purchased 2004-04, Put into service 2004-04, Taken out of service 2010-11-26. (In service 6.5 years)

The previous stats server, blower (statsbox-iii), had these stats:
  • Dell PowerEdge 6400 Quad-Processor Pentium II Xeon 450-MHz
  • Rack Mount 7U Chassis, huge! (8 hotswap drive bays)
  • 2.0GB RAM
  • Dell PERC RAID Controller
  • 104814MB RAID 5 (3 disks)
  • 17278MB RAID 1 (2 disks)
  • Operating system is FreeBSD 4.x
  • Web server is Apache and PHP
  • Database back-end is PostgreSQL, transitioned from Sybase ASE for Linux (running in Linux binary emulation mode under FreeBSD)
  • Build began 2001-05, Put into service 2001-12, Taken out of service 2004-04. (In service 2.4 years)
  • Picture: link
Prior to that, the stats server tally (statsbox-ii), looked something like this:
  • Dual-Processor Pentium III-500 (Asus P2B-DS motherboard)
  • 512Mb of RAM (two of four DIMM sockets filled)
  • 13Gb of u2w-scsi hard drive (a nine and a four)
  • Operating system is Linux 2.2 kernel
  • Web server is Apache and PHP.
  • Database back-end is Sybase ASE for Linux
  • Build began 1999-01, Put into service 1999-02, Taken out of service 2001-12. (In service 2.8 years)

And prior to that, statsbox-i:

  • Pentium 166 overclocked to 200MHz
  • 128MB of RAM
