Doing more frequent stats updates isn't really all that useful, and encourages behavior that's damaging to the network.
It's really in everyone's best interest if your clients only flush blocks once
a day or so. When stats updated more frequently than daily, some people changed
their client configuration to run the smallest block sizes and to flush after every block. This creates needless network traffic and makes for larger log files on the keymaster.
Besides, in projects that take place over several years, does it really matter how many blocks you had done *at noon today*? Daily updates are quite sufficient for tracking the progress of the project.
